Words on Wednesday: Level 4 – again

So here we are again, at lockdown level 4 for the whole of New Zealand for three days, Auckland and The Coromandel possibly seven days. One community case was found in Auckland, and this morning I see four new cases have been identified, all, as we suspected, the Delta strain. It is just 12 days to what would have been six consecutive months without a community case, with the last one reported on 28 February.

Level 4 means essentially that everything closes except pharmacies, food outlets (supermarkets and some other food shops), staying at home – well you know the drill. So no report today on a new cafe in town, no report on our first burger in the Burger Wellington section of Wellington on a Plate…but really, what is more important at the end of the day?

I have a good book to get on with today (I’ll be joining in Friday’s What’s On Your Bookshelf challenge), a lot of housework to get on with (or not as the case may be), and I’ll be working from home on Thursday and Friday.

  4. Me (Catherine) in West Auckland still trying to evaluate what has unfolded. I’m classed as vulnerable but I am fully vaccinated. Like so many other major/minor lockdowns, I just hunkered down at home and did whatever I normally do at home, create art etc.
    Lucky late last week I did a super big online grocery shop (when it came I thought wow, that’s a lot of…) and then in the w/end a visit with fresh fruit/veges store. Plus for some reason, went and got a bit of an overdue hair cut/Monday.
    The next big item to tick, is where is the source of the current infected – or did the initial dude get it someplace else…”that will help the powers to be, sort out lockdown length”

  5. We know the drill … how right you are. Although we are at Level 3, we still have a curfew from 10pm until 4am, gatherings are limited, and one may only purchase alcohol between certain hours from Mondays to Thursdays. I am going out to lunch with a friend today: my first ‘eat out’ meal since March last year!

    1. Enjoy your lunch! We have had no community cases for almost 6 months, so it has hit us going into a hard lockdown – but for the best. Funny thing – the most asked question today was ‘are the bottle shops (off licences) open’? The answer is ‘no’ but wine and beer is available at the supermarket and you can get spirits delivered.

  6. I hadn’t realised New Zealand had a Covid Delta case, sorry to hear that. We are in Lockdown here in Canberra, our daughter in Melbourne is in Lockdown, and all our relatives in Sydney are in what could only be called “Lockdown Light”…everyone wandering around! Anyway, at least it is spring! Keep warm and busy!

    1. Yes…has come from NSW. Genome sequencing links the first case to the NSW outbreak. Cases now up to ten. Can see this lockdown going on for a while….as you say at least it is spring and I will be working at home so will keep busy! All the best and thanks for stopping by.

    1. I think so to date anyway. The vaccine roll out has been slow, but that is to do with supply shortages, It has been quite annoying. Anyway, it is happening now. Fingers crossed for all of us!

  9. I grew up in Auckland, in particular on the North Shore so it saddens me that it’s all happening here but I think we are fortunate to have a govt so quick to respond.
