This week’s small pleasures #94

So here we are again, Monday evening New Zealand time, and that moment of the week where we round up the small pleasures of the past week

1 Books and other reading matter

I actually spent several hours this weekend reading, finishing a re-read of Barbara Pym’s ‘No Fond Return of Love’.  If you are a fan of her books like I am, I am sure you can imagine nothing better than a sofa, a pot of tea and whichever one of her novels you decide to pick up.

Plans for a delicious and suspenseful weekend.

I picked up the new book from Diana Henry, with not only a perfect title, but the cover is slightly furry like a peach skin.  I am so looking forward to delving deeper into the menus and stories within.  At the same time, I got the latest Donna Leon, and the guy who served me at Unity Books wished me “a delicious and suspenseful weekend”. Such a perfect thing to say!  The magazine at the bottom is Fête/Life, mainly bought for a piece about exercises with a foam roller!

2 Sunrises and sunsets

On days where there has been no rain, there continue to be some wonderful autumn sunrises and sunsets (see below and headline picture).

3 Saturday

We had a great day on Saturday – read about it in my last post.

4 Sunday dinner

A warming, cottage pie, topped with a mix of potato and kumara (sweet potato)…just perfect for an autumn night.

5 Charlie – because you can never get enough of this sweet little ball of black fur.
